The Rotary Club of Wuse Central, Abuja, has marked its 25th anniversary and pledged to continue its commitment to community service in all spheres of humanity.
The club also awarded LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group the Rotary Community Media Partner Award for its enormous support of the club over the years.
The event, which was held in Abuja on Friday, May 23, 2025, attracted essential dignitaries, including former Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, who was the Mother of the Day.
The club began with 27 committed individuals in 1998 and was officially chartered on May 23, 2000. The founding individuals shared a vision not just for service but for a community bound by purpose and friendship.
The celebration, tagged „ 25 Years of Fellowship and Community Service,“ was significant given the enormous projects that the Club has delivered to the community over the years, primarily to assist the underprivileged.
Club President, Rotarian Tomola Emaleku, said the occasion reflects on the journey so far, stressing that the club has implemented various Community projects, empowering local communities and promoting sustainable development.
He noted that the club is recommitting itself to stronger community ties, saying, “We‘ll continue to engage with stakeholders, addressing pressing issues and capitalising on opportunities.
“In expanding service projects: We ‘ll develop innovative initiatives, tackling challenges and creating lasting impact,” he added.
In her welcome address, Sarah Sanda, Anniversary Celebrations Planning Committee Chairperson, said the celebration is in honour of great things the club has accomplished in the last 25 years, which ranges from heart care campaigns to building health centres, hostels and school blocks; sinking boreholes to provide water in communities; and polio eradication drives.
Sanda, the first female Rotary club president in Abuja, also said, “As we toast to 25 years, let us also look ahead. The next quarter-century calls us to innovate, to include, and to ignite even greater passion for Rotary‘s ideals.”
The District Governor 2024-2025, District 9127, Mike Ukachi Nwanoshiri, lauded the club for demonstrating a steadfast commitment to serving humanity.
“Your tireless efforts have undoubtedly touched countless lives, your contributions to the Rotary movement are truly commendable,” he said.
Chiddy Onuogu, who served as Club President from 2001 to 2002 Rotary Year, noted that the passion to help humanity is at the heart of the Rotary Club, even as he urged those coming to Rotary to be committed, stressing that „Rotary is about integrity, service and friendship.“
The club also honoured its past presidents and others for meritorious service.
