South East Zonal Consultant, Center for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions, Nneka Onwu has said Rubella Virus Vaccine will be introduced in Nigeria for the first time before the end of this year.
Onwu spoke to LEADERSHIP after a Measles/Rubella Virus Campaign advocacy visit to the permanent secretary, Abia State Ministry of Information, Chris Onwuegbu in his office in Umuahia, the state capital.
She explained that the visit become necessary to enlighten the public on the virus and to sensitize them on the available solutions for it at the moment.
During the advocacy, the consultant noted that it is in line with the state government‘s commitment to improving the healthcare needs and living standards of the people.
She solicited the collaboration of the ministry and other line ministries to strengthen support and advocacy on measles and rubella vaccine immunization for children aged between 0 -15 in the state.
Onwu used the forum to announce that the state came first in a recent survey by the centre on the use of public health facilities by residents of the five states of the zone.
She commended the wife of the governor, Priscilla Otti for her relentless efforts in championing the fight against measles and rubella viruses and other health interventions.
In a response, the permanent secretary said Otti is intentional at improving the living standards and the general well-being of the people in fulfillment of his campaign promises.
Onwuegbu assured her of the commitment of the ministry to partner with the centre, the other line ministries, and the relevant bodies to enhance the wellbeing of the people.
