Nigeri’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has emphasised the pivotal role of rural development in fostering national stability and resilience, particularly in the face of growing global challenges.

In a message commemorating World Rural Development Day 2025, observed globally on July 6, the First Lady described rural communities as the “bedrock upon which lasting national development is built.”

She called for greater investment and attention toward empowering the rural populace.

“With the theme: ‘Rural Development: Resilience to Global Change,’ this year’s celebration speaks aptly to the heart of the challenges faced by the nations of the world,” she stated.

Senator Tinubu noted that rural populations are often the most affected by the adverse impacts of climate change, economic instability, and communal conflicts, yet they remain essential to the fabric of national development.

“We need to empower our rural populations to adapt and thrive in the face of the growing challenges,” she said. “Let us work together to ensure that no community is left behind as we build a stronger, more resilient Nigeria.”

The First Lady called for unity, “Let us build a Nigeria where every community, no matter how remote, is part of our shared progress.”

World Rural Development Day is marked annually to spotlight the needs of rural communities and to promote sustainable development practices that ensure long-term prosperity for rural dwellers.
