Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka was left out of the England team training session today as the Three Lions want to manage his workload.
The 22-year-old has had an intense start to the 2023-24 Premier League season, missing just a minute of action after he was withdrawn in the 89th minute against Crystal Palace.
Saka, Levi Colwill and Callum Wilson only partook in individual sessions as a way to lessen the intensity of their training plan.
The Arsenal star has hit the ground running this term, with two goals and an assist to his name in four league games so far.
He ended last term with 14 goals and 11 assists in 38 Premier League appearances and has simply continued from where he stopped.
Saka featured in all of the pre-season games the Gunners played during their camp in Germany and on their tour of the United States and could do with a much-needed and deserved rest during the break.
The Hale End academy graduate has featured in 83 consecutive Premier League matches for Arsenal, surpassing the record of 82 games achieved by Paul Merson between February 1995 and February 1997.
He won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for 2022-23 last month and will be eager to lead Arsenal to the title this term after the narrow miss of last season.
England face Ukraine in the European Championship 2024 qualifier on Saturday before going to Scotland for a friendly on September 12.
Saka is expected to feature in both games and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will hope to have him back in fine form when action resumes on September 17.
Arsenal travel to Goodison Park to face Everton after the break and will be keen to continue from where they stopped against Manchester United.
