Liverpool have excluded Mohamed Salah from their squad for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter Milan following an explosive interview in which the Egyptian forward claimed he was “thrown under the bus” by the club and acknowledged a breakdown in his relationship with head coach Arne Slot.

The decision was made with Slot’s full support and is viewed as in the best interest of all parties after Salah’s public comments on Saturday. No formal disciplinary action was planned, but the 33-year-old will undergo a brief period away from selection.

Salah is scheduled to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next Monday and is also expected to miss Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Brighton.

The Egyptian forward spoke out after being an unused substitute in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw at Leeds United—his third consecutive match starting on the bench.

His last start came in a Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven in early November, with his most recent goal scored on November 1 against Aston Villa.

Salah, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and signed a two-year contract extension last April, has scored five goals in 18 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League this season.

Overall, he has netted 250 times in 420 appearances for the club and was instrumental in last season’s title win with 29 league goals.

Liverpool’s 19-man squad travelled to Milan on Monday ahead of the match.

Manager Arne Slot is set to address the media alongside goalkeeper Alisson Becker in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.
