The Nigeria Super League produced another exhilarating round of action at the TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos on Day 2 as the Central Eagles edged Eastern Elephants in a nail-biting finish, while Southern Sharks bounced back emphatically with a dominant victory over Western Dolphins.

The standout encounter of Match Day Two saw Central Eagles survive a dramatic late scare to defeat Eastern Elephants by just one run in the closest contest of the tournament so far.

Batting first after being sent in, the Eagles posted a formidable 157 for four in their 20 overs, inspired by a magnificent innings from wicketkeeper-batsman Selim Salau. The right-hander anchored the innings brilliantly with 83 runs from 61 deliveries, smashing four boundaries and seven sixes in a commanding display.

After the early dismissal of Happy Bagshaw, Mohammed Moshood and Emmanuel Boniface Oche rebuilt the innings before Useni Prosper provided late fireworks with an unbeaten 22 off nine balls.

Eastern Elephants launched a spirited chase through Paul Pam and Rahmon Ali, but disciplined bowling from Ifeanyi Uboh and Azeez Warees kept the pressure firmly on.

Ipoli Victor almost completed a sensational comeback with a counter-attacking 52 off 35 balls, dragging the match into a tense final over. However, Central Eagles held their nerve with crucial run-outs at the death to restrict the Elephants to 156 for nine and secure a dramatic one-run victory.

Salau was deservedly named Player of the Match for his match-winning knock.

In the day’s second fixture, Southern Sharks responded strongly to their opening defeat by overpowering Western Dolphins by 48 runs.

The Sharks piled up an imposing 176 for seven after electing to bat first, with Isesele Odion Evangel producing a destructive 54 off 31 balls, including 11 boundaries. Kenneth Boniface added a rapid 47 from 25 deliveries, while Akhigbe Miracle contributed 28.

Despite efforts from Udekwe Chiemelie and Monday Elijah, who claimed two wickets apiece, the Dolphins were unable to stem the flow of runs.

Chasing 177, Western Dolphins lost early wickets and never fully recovered. Captain Vincent Adewoye top-scored with a brisk 35 off 21 balls, while Destiny Chilemanya and Chiemelie attempted to revive the innings.

Southern Sharks’ bowlers, led by Ayeni Precious and Ismail Abdullahi with two wickets each, maintained control throughout as the Dolphins were dismissed for 128 in 16.4 overs.

Evangel earned the Player of the Match award for his explosive half-century and decisive contribution to the Sharks’ victory.

With thrilling finishes, powerful batting displays and rising competition intensity, the Nigeria Super League continues to underline the growing excitement surrounding cricket in Nigeria.
