The Kano State Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has inaugurated an eight-member Special Investigation Panel (SIP) to investigate violence that erupted during the procession of the entourage of 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, after Eid-el-Fitr prayers on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the panel was tasked with uncovering the root causes of the violence and determining whether there was defiance of the Command’s ban on all forms of Durbar or horse-riding throughout the Sallah festivities.

LEADERSHIP reports that the Police ban was imposed due to security concerns in the state.

However, on Eid Day, an incident reportedly claimed the life of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu, from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, while another individual, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital in Kano.

Two suspects, identified as 20-year-old Usman Sagiru of Sharifai Quarters and 35-year-old Nasir Idris of Kofar Mazugal Quarters, have been arrested in connection with the incident. Additionally, the Police Command has summoned Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for interrogation over alleged defiance of the Durbar ban.

The Special Investigation Panel has been directed to expedite its findings to ensure that justice is served. “Anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” the release stated.

The Police Command reiterated its ban on all forms of thuggery and warned that anyone found engaging in such activities will be dealt with decisively. “All forms of thuggery (Daba) activities will not be tolerated, and anyone engaging in any act or conduct that may likely cause a breach of peace or breakdown of law and public order will be made to face the law,” the PPRO stated.
