Ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Kwara State government has urged transporters to avoid reckless driving to ensure the safety of commuters.

It also cautioned the transporters and residents against any act that could hinder peaceful celebrations.

The transportation commissioner, Hon. Lafia Korasabi, advised transporters in a statement yesterday to promote a culture of responsible driving and reduce the incidence of road accidents before, during, and after the celebration.

He noted that the state government prioritises residents’ safety. Korasabi enjoined the transporters to complement the government’s efforts by obeying traffic rules and regulations.

He warned against overloading, overspeeding, and using vehicles without adequate roadworthiness, among other traffic violations that sometimes cause road accidents.

He said the ministry’s traffic management agents will be on guard at strategic points to ensure free vehicular movement during the celebration.

The commissioner advised commuters to avoid boarding vehicles at roadside parks, which he noted could be dangerous, and to patronise only duly registered motor parks.
