Sam Nda-Isaiah Foundation, yesterday, presented a cheque of N250 million to a Kano-based commercial tricycle rider, Auwalu Salisu, who emerged as the 2023 LEADERSHIP Young Person of the Year.
The N250 million was a gift from the Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to Auwalu Salisu for returning the N15 million he found in his tricycle to the owners.
The cheque was presented to Salisu by the Editor-in-Chief of LEADERSHIP Newspaper, Mr Azu Ishiekwene, who is also a Director at the Sam Nda-Isaiah Foundation.
Ishiekwene presented the cheque to Salisu at LEADERSHIP’s headquarters in the presence of Salisu’s uncle, Abba Tukur, and the General Manager of Arewa Radio, Shehu Bala Kabara. Both Tukur and Kabara who served as witnesses, were earlier nominated by Salisu as Trustees.
Shortly after he presented the cheque to Salisu, Ishiekwene thanked Governor Bago for the donation and lauded the recipient for displaying such an extraordinary act of honesty. He advised him to manage the funds the way Governor Bago intended it to be managed.
In a brief remark on behalf of Salisu, Kabara acknowledged LEADERSHIP for the award which provided the basis for Governor Bago’s donation. He promised that the funds would be well used.
Governor Bago had promised Salisu N250m gift on behalf of President Bola Tinubu; Ministers; APC Governors Forum, and the Niger State government during the LEADERSHIP Annual Conference and Awards, where Salisu was unveiled as the newspaper’s Outstanding Young Person of the Year 2023 for his rare act of honesty.
The governor, however, redeemed his promise to Salisu through the Sam Nda-Isaiah Foundation.
He also received a scholarship offer to the Abuja-based Baze University up to PhD level from a fellow awardee and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
