Veteran actor Sam Neill, widely celebrated for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the ‘Jurassic Park’ films, has died at the age of 78 after battling pneumonia.

His representative confirmed the cause of death in a statement, revealing that Neill had previously overcome angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer, following treatment with CAR-T therapy.

Despite his health challenges, the actor remained active until recently. Over the past year, he completed work on four film and television projects while continuing to oversee his New Zealand winery, Two Paddocks.

A private memorial will be held at Neill’s farm in New Zealand at a later date. His representative also asked the public to respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.

Rather than sending flowers, fans who wish to honour the late actor have been encouraged to support charities and organisations that were close to his heart, including The Dunstan Hospital Foundation, The Snowdome Foundation, the NZ Nature Fund and Sustainable Tarras.

Neill was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma in 2022 and later disclosed that he had gone into remission. Although the cancer was under control, he previously revealed that he would likely remain on chemotherapy for the rest of his life.

With a career spanning more than five decades, Neill became one of cinema’s most recognisable faces through performances in ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘The Piano’, ‘The Hunt for Red October’ and several other acclaimed productions. Following news of his passing, tributes have continued to pour in from fans and colleagues around the world.
