A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former attorney general of Kwara State, Chief Titus Ashaolu, has urged Nigerians to save the judiciary from collapsing by obeying the court’s judgments.

He said the sanctity of the judiciary could only be upheld when citizens obey court judgments.

Ashaolu, who spoke exclusively with LEADERSHIP in Ilorin, described flagrant disobedience of court orders as a great danger to the judiciary and the democratic system.

He urged the nation’s judges to avoid granting conflicting judgements on the same matters from different courts, noting that such could lead to the breakdown of law and order.

The legal giant advised lawyers to properly guide their clients on what to do when a court judgement is not in their favour.

He counselled litigants, unsatisfied with the court judgement, to seek redress through an appeal, adding that disobedience to court orders is a grievous offence.

He emphasised the need for courts to make their judgements explicit, simple, and unambiguous so that it would not be difficult for anyone to interpret.

Ashaolu said the court, being the last hope of the common man, should be protected from ridicule under whatever guise.
