The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has said the sanctions it imposed on 25 members are aimed at safeguarding workers’ rights and deterring indiscipline within the movement.

Speaking at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Lagos, TUC president, Festus Osifo, said the NEC approved the expulsion of 11 members and the immediate two‑year suspension of 14 others following an investigation by a Disciplinary Committee into complaints against them.

The committee was constituted following an NEC directive on 27 April 2026 and submitted its report for consideration at the NEC’s 18 May 2026 meeting, Osifo said.

Osifo explained that the action taken by the union became imperative to instil discipline and deter other members from taking steps that would lead to indiscipline within the movement.

Reading from the communique signed by both the President, Comrade Festus Osifo and the Secretary General, Comrade Nuhu Toro, Osifo reiterated that “NEC at its meeting held on 27th April,

Furthermore, Osifo said, “the NEC reaffirms that discipline is indispensable to the survival, stability and integrity of any institution. No personal interest, ambition or grievance
