Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday swore in 12 members of the governing council for Lagos State University (LASU) and charged them to provide stability, uphold academic integrity, and define the long-term vision that will sustain the institution in an era marked by technological disruption, global competition, and rapidly changing educational demands.
According to him, the governing Council plays a central role in shaping the legacy that the institution is noted for, adding that, “You are called to provide stability, uphold academic integrity, and define the long-term vision that will sustain LASU in an era marked by technological disruption, global competition, and rapidly changing educational demands.”
The governor said their leadership must therefore embody transparency, accountability, and courage. He stressed that those are the qualities that preserve institutional credibility and strengthen the trust of students, faculty, parents, and partners.
“Your selection is not only a recognition of your individual accomplishments but also a call to service to an institution that carries the hopes and aspirations of thousands of young people.
“The university and state look to you to provide visionary leadership and strategic direction that will strengthen the institution and position it among leading universities globally,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He explained that LASU, over the years, has proven itself as an engine of mobility, a platform for transformation, and a cradle of innovation.
“Many of the brightest minds in our state and country have passed through its classrooms, laboratories, and lecture halls. Their achievements stand as testimony to the value LASU brings to society, “he said.
The governor applauded Sir David O. A. Sunmoni, the immediate past chairman of the last governing council, for the meritorious service to the University and the state, saying under his visionary stewardship, the Council has upheld the highest standards of governance and made invaluable contributions that have indeed led to the success and achievements of the University in recent years.
In his vote of thanks, the chairman of the newly sworn-in governing Council, Mr Babatunde Ogala (SAN), said the governing council has developed a strategy and will pick the one that will not disappoint the state government.
“We are conscious of the position of LASU. It is the most sought-after institution. During our tenure, we shall maintain and improve on the standard set.
