Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has arrested a soldier and some commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders for driving against traffic on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
This was disclosed in videos shared by the senior special assistant on media to the governor, Wale Ajetunmobi, on his X (formerly Twitter) account yesterday.
He said the soldier and the motorcycle riders were arrested by Sanwo-Olu on yesterday morning.
He said, “This morning: Lawless Okada riders plying one way on Lagos-Badagry Expressway left their motorcycles and passengers upon sighting the convoy of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“One of the offenders – a lance corporal in the Army – was arrested with his bike.’’
In the ensuing melee, some motorcyclists, in one of the videos, were seen driving away with their passengers to escape being arrested by the governor’s security officers, while others absconded on foot and abandoned their motorcycles and their passengers.
Governor Sanwo-Olu was heard in the video ordering the security officers to put one of the motorcyclists who claimed to be a soldier into the vehicle, saying he was going to lock him up.
“Put him there; let your father come and rescue you. You’re telling me you are a soldier; that is the reason I am going to lock you up,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu, who addressed a female passenger, said, “You people are the ones causing this. Maybe I should arrest two of you and put you in the guardroom.
“You are entering Okada, and they are taking one way. Is it good? And they will now hit you; you will fall and die; they will say the government killed you.”
