He made this commitment on Monday when the Council, led by its outgoing President, Elder Olusegun Ladega, visited Mr Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos House, Ikeja.

He applauded the contribution of the Boys Brigade community to teaching young boys the importance of godly behaviours.

According to him, “As a government, I want to assure you that we will support you. We acknowledge your efforts thus far. We will lend a hand of support directly or indirectly so you can continue to do that job you have been doing selflessly.

“Just to have a better society where we can nurture the boys into proper men. I see collaboration, and this government has set up an economic agenda where youths, women, and the challenged in the society are part of the cardinal point in our administration.’’

The Governor also expressed his happiness at the brigade‘s leadership‘s sense of ownership. He called for more commitment and wanted their activities to be more visible and accessible. He also commended the association‘s longevity, having existed since 1908 as a Christian faith body.

“It has earned its space. I have been a patron of a platoon and a battalion, and the discipline and ethos of the Boys Brigade are not lost on me,“ Mr Governor added.

In his response, Elder Ladega, the outgoing President, said he wanted to use the occasion to introduce his successor, Elder Urum Eke, and the new executive and confirmed that the investiture ceremony will be held on October 20th at the Presbyterian Church Victoria Garden City, Lagos.

Lagos State Council of the Boys Brigade is the oldest state council in Nigeria. Over the past few years, the Council has raised funds to build a Boys Brigade centre in an out-of-town location, a campsite, a training ground, and a demonstration farm so that members can learn about farming as a form of bringing back or highlighting the values that have been the bedrock of the Boys Brigade.
