Amid the current economic hardship in the country, the wife of Lagos State Governor Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has called on women across the country to embrace prudence, modesty and resourcefulness in managing their homes and businesses.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the National Women’s Conference (NWC) held in Lagos, the Governor’s wife highlighted the need for women to adopt practical approaches in navigating the present economic realities, urging them to explore innovative ways of managing resources effectively.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu emphasised women’s critical roles in nation-building, noting that their ability to balance family, work, and community engagements makes them key players in societal development.

She highlighted the pressing need for women to adapt to the realities of the current global economic situation by adjusting their lifestyles, focusing on what truly matters, and setting an example in their communities.

According to her, reducing waste and focusing on purposeful spending would strengthen the financial health of households and, by extension, the nation.

She encouraged participants at the Conference to empower themselves with knowledge and skills that would enable them to make meaningful contributions to the economy, stressing the importance of financial prudence and self-reliance.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting women through various empowerment initiatives and policies aimed at fostering economic growth, Dr Sanwo-Olu urged women to strengthen their entrepreneurial abilities and seek opportunities that align with their goals.

She expressed her satisfaction with the women’s active participation at the conference, noting that despite the short duration of this year’s Conference, the quality of the lectures delivered by various speakers remained impactful and insightful.

“I am proud that this gathering, just like its previous editions, has exemplified women’s strength, resilience, and ingenuity in our society,” she said.

She also reflected on the need for flexibility and innovation in addressing the current challenges.

She urged women to be willing to re-strategize for better outcomes, citing COWLSO’s approach of making strategic shifts in focus from year to year.

The conference, which drew women leaders from different sectors across Nigeria, focused on addressing challenges faced by women in a rapidly changing economic landscape.
