Internet fraudsters have targeted at least 7,000 applicants seeking the National Population Commission (NPC’s) ad-hoc jobs ahead of the National Population Census in Nasarawa State.

This was disclosed by the NPC commissioner for the state, Mr Silas Agara, when he appeared on Option FM 92:3 FM Akwanga’s programme, “Matters Arising” on Tuesday.

He said more than 70,000 persons applied for the 15,000 NPC’s ad-hoc jobs allocated to the state.

He said tentatively 70,782 job seekers applied to serve as supervisors and enumerators during the exercise.

He, however, said the number of ad-hoc staff required for the exercise in the state is 7,000 across all the 13 local government areas of the state.

He said the desperation for the limited spaces enabled the scammers to take advantage of the people, noting that over 7,000 of them were defrauded by fake approvals on the internet.

Agara said his office had been flooded by job seekers and their relatives daily over the ad-hoc jobs, while urging applicants to be patient because of the limited space.

He said, “A total of 70,782 applied and what we needed is only 15,000 ad-hoc staffs to conduct the forthcoming census in Nasarawa State”

“In Karu local government area, a total of 18,000 applicants applied and all we needed was 4,000. In Lafia local government area of the state, 11,900 applied, but only 3,000 is needed. In Akwanga, 6,600 applied, but only 509 is needed for the job,” he said.
