Videos circulating on social media showed lifeless bodies lying on the ground at the scene of the tragic incident.

Some of the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention, though the exact number of casualties remained unconfirmed.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Anambra State Governor, Charles Aburime confirmed the incident when contacted.

He assured the public that the state government was monitoring the situation closely and would release an official statement soon.

LEADERSHIP reports that the Anambra stampede came just days after a funfair in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, turned deadly, with 35 people, mostly children killed in the incident.

Recall that this marked the second stampede related to rice distribution in 2024.

In March, a similar tragedy occurred at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where several students lost their lives while collecting rice donated by the state government.
