The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe as its new National Chairman following a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held at Newton Hotel and Resort in Abuja.
At the meeting yesterday, the NEC also approved the appointment of Senator Ugochukwu Uba as National Deputy Chairman (South), and Mrs. Rosemary Effiong as National Labour and Civil Society Secretary.
The committee further took disciplinary action against former National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, and some other party officials, suspending them over alleged financial misconduct, embezzlement and diversion of party funds said to exceed N1 billion.
The development follows an earlier suspension of Gabam in June last year over similar allegations, as well as a Supreme Court ruling which recognised Gombe’s leadership of the party.
