The Forum of State Chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nigeria has called for the immediate constitution of the Board of Trustees (BoT) to strengthen internal checks and promote transparent, collective leadership within the party.
The chairman of the Forum, Mr. Femi Olaniyi, made this call at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
He said, the forum requested the distribution of the White Paper on disciplinary actions concerning Shehu Gabam and others to all state chairmen for proper record and awareness.
“The 37 SDP State Chairmen unanimously supported the suspension of the former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, and others involved in financial malpractices.
“The Disciplinary Committee, led by Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Sadia Liman, submitted its report to the NWC, and the State Chairmen supported the decisions reached by the NWC regarding the sanctions for those involved in infractions of the SDP Constitution.” Olaniyi said
He expressed their full support for the NWC’s decisions to remove Shehu Gabam and Ogbonna Uchechukwu from office and expel them from the party.
He stressed the need for further investigation by relevant authorities such as the EFCC and the Nigeria Police to recover the embezzled funds, which belong to the states as stipulated by the SDP constitution.
Olaniyi also emphasised the importance of recovering the alleged funds embezzled by the former national chairman, stating that legal action may be taken if necessary.
“We affirm our support to the NWC under the leadership of the Acting National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Abubakar Gombe, and the National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye and confirmed our vote of confidence in the entire National Working Committee of the SDP,” he added.
