The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has taken decisive action by expelling several top officials of the party, including its former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, over allegations of misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office.
The Nationa Publicity secretary of SDP, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, at a press briefing with journalists on Thursday in Abuja, said that the decision was taken during the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, following months of investigation and disciplinary proceedings.
He emphasised that the NWC adopted the report of the Disciplinary Committee and the subsequent White Paper, which reviewed the findings and recommendations on the allegations brought against the affected party officers.
“The party had earlier suspended Gabam, Uchechukwu, and the National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, on June 24, 2025, over misconduct, financial impropriety, and abuse of office.
“An independent Disciplinary Committee was constituted on July 4, 2025, which conducted an investigation and submitted its report on July 18, 2025. The NWC reviewed and adopted the White Paper on August 15, 2025, leading to the dismissal and expulsion of Gabam, Uchechukwu and eight other members for alleged acts of disloyalty and unlawful entry into the party’s national secretariat on July 28, 2025,” he said.
Aiyenigba also said that the expelled members were caught by security operatives in possession of sensitive documents and valuables allegedly removed from the secretariat.
“The NWC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and constitutional order within the SDP, with the decisions to take immediate effect as of Thursday, October 23, 2025, and other administrative recommendations from the White Paper to be implemented to prevent future infractions,” he added.
