Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze has revealed that his earlier discussion with coach Paulo Fonseca is what has spurred his improved performances at AC Milan in pre-season.
Chukwueze joined AC Milan from Villarreal last summer after six year at the Spanish club. For most of his time in Milan, the 25-year-old winger was inconsistent. He had many flashes of what he could do, but he failed to deliver the goods regularly.
At AC Milan, Chukwueze had the same issue last season, albeit he had limited game time under the tutelage of coach Stefano Pioli.
However, since Fonseca took over at Milan, Chukwueze has become a different animal. The Super Eagles star has been impressive in pre-season thus far. He has registered one goal and two assists in four pre-season games for the Rossoneri.
With the brilliance he has shown in pre-season, the former Villarreal star looks primed for a good campaign next season. In a recent interview, Chukwueze revealed that Fonseca has played a big role in his revival, as the Portuguese tactician has been in constant communication with him.
“He only told me one thing: ‘Samuel, I don’t want to see the Chukwueze from last year. I want the one from Villarreal.’
And I said, ‘Okay, no problem.’ It’s like I’ve been reborn, I’m a new player,” Chukwueze told La Gazetta, per Milan Post.
Milan begin their Serie A campaign with a fifteen against Torino on August 17, and Chukwueze will be looking to have an improved performance for the Rossoneri.
