The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has described as undemocratic the attack on its gubernatorial candidate, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, allegedly orchestrated by the State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, at a polling unit during the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.

Engr. Yusuf and other voters were at Chiranchi quarters polling unit in Gwale local government area of the State waiting for their turns to cast votes when the APC chairman arrived the scene with thugs in their hundreds chanting war songs and then started stoning in a bid to disrupt the peaceful election exercise and and scare voters.

A statement signed by the chief spokesperson of the NNPP Campaign Council, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said while no case of injury was recorded, it took intervention of the Police and other security agencies at the scene, who shot sporadically in the air in order to scare away the assailants in order to restore peace at the scene.

The NNPP governorship candidate commended the maturity and patience exhibited by the NNPP supporters present at the scene for not retaliating the attack while assuring the general public that his party members will remain patriotic and respect the law during and after the elections.

Yusuf, who cast his vote at Chiranchi 005 Polling Unit in Gwale local government area of the State, called on voters to be law-abiding and vigilant of bad elements in Kano, who have devised all sinister means including violence to manipulate the 2023 election results.
