The Kano State Government has begun the construction of toll gates at seven major entry points into the state as part of measures to strengthen security and regulate vehicular movement.
The Commissioner for Housing Development, Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, disclosed recently during the official handover of project sites to contractors that, the initiative was aimed at enhancing the state’s security framework and improving monitoring of vehicles entering Kano metropolis.
According to him, the government resolved to mount toll gates on major roads leading into the state to boost security and support socio-economic activities.
“We are determined to enhance our security apparatus through adequate monitoring of vehicular movement into the state,” the commissioner said.
Adamu urged the contractors to adhere strictly to project specifications and ensure timely completion within the agreed timeframe.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Marwan Ahmed, and the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Dr. Nura Ma’aji.
A highlight of the event was the signing of handover documents by representatives of the Ministry of Housing Development, the contractors and the project consultant.
The toll gates are to be located along Daura Road, Katsina Road, Gwarzo Road, Zaria Road, Maiduguri Road, Hadejia Road and the Sa’adatu Rimi axis.
The Commissioner further maintain that the project forms part of the government broader efforts to reinforce security monitoring across strategic corridors in the state.
