Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has opened up about his international career choice, revealing that pledging his future to Ghana instead of England or France was one of the simplest decisions he has ever made.
The 26-year-old attacker, who qualifies to represent all three nations, explained that despite the apparent prestige of playing for European powerhouses like England or France, his heart was always set on the Black Stars.
Speaking on The Mixer podcast, Semenyo shared that when Ghana’s senior team came calling when he was just 20 or 21 years old, the opportunity was too meaningful to turn down.
“I couldn’t say no to playing for the first team, so it was an easy choice,” he said. He dismissed any notion of a prolonged internal debate, adding, “No, it was never a hard decision.”
Semenyo also downplayed the idea that he seriously considered waiting for an England call-up, acknowledging candidly: “I wasn’t even in England’s top ranking like that anyway.”
The forward officially committed to Ghana in 2022 and has since become an important part of the Black Stars’ setup, bringing pace and power to their attack.
His remarks offer a rare glimpse into how personal connection and timing, not just national team pedigree, shaped his path on the international stage.
