All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, has threatened legal action against Hon. Abayomi Hunye and former Nigerian Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello over alleged libellous statements concerning his origin.

Recall that Hunye and Marcus-Bello, at different times during interviews on a national television station, insisted that Adeola had lied about his state of origin, describing his claim that he was from Ogun State as nothing but a blatant lie.

Adeola issued the threat in a statement yesterday in Abuja, through his media adviser, Kayode Odunaro.
The senator alleged that Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube in Ipokia local government area, and Marcus-Bello, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made false statements about him and his family during separate television interviews.

According to Adeola, the two individuals appeared on a television programme in which they allegedly claimed he was an indigene of Ekiti State.

He challenged them to publicly produce evidence to support their claims within 24 hours or face legal action.

“I watched in utter disbelief as these characters, whom I hardly know, uttered assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof,” Adeola said.

The senator further alleged that one of the individuals claimed during the television programme that he was from Ekiti State but was unable to identify the specific location when questioned.

He also accused the other of making what he described as false claims about the locations of his parents’ graves in an attempt to support the allegations concerning his origin.

“The other one was lying about the locations of the graves of my parents as if she were part of the undertakers at the burial, all in a futile effort to justify an unsustainable falsehood.

“Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence within 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits,” Adeola said.

The APC candidate recalled that similar allegations about his origin had previously been circulated as political propaganda to prevent his emergence as the senator representing Ogun West.

He said the allegations failed to sway voters, noting that he was elected by the people of Ogun West in the 2023 National Assembly elections.

Adeola described the renewed claims as another attempt to undermine his political standing and perceived chances in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
