He listed the screened nominees as: “Aminu Yusuf (Niger State) – Chairman, Joseph Haruna Kigbu (Nasarawa State) – Commissioner, Tonga Betara Bularafa (Yobe State) – Commissioner.

Umeh explained that the committee ensured due diligence was followed by demanding relevant documentation such as curriculum vitae, Code of Conduct Bureau clearance certificates, police and Department of State Services (DSS) reports before the screening process began.

He added that each nominee made a presentation before the committee, followed by a robust question-and-answer session to assess their competence and understanding of the commission’s mandate.

“We are satisfied with the nominees’ qualifications, experience, and overall suitability,” Umeh said.

The Senate resolved into the Committee of the Whole to consider the recommendations of the Standing Committee.

At the committee of the whole, Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the recommendations to a voice vote, and the “ayes” had it.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had written the Senate where he sought the screening and subsequent confirmation of the nominees.

The letter dated July 31, 2025, was read on October 7 by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on the floor of the Senate.
