Senate President: Arewa Journalists Lobby Northern Elders, Senators

Ahead of the 10th Assembly inauguration, the Arewa Journalists Forum is lobbying the Northern Elders and the Senators-elect from the region to take a stand on who should be the next Senate President.

According to the Arewa Journalists Forum, the next Senate President should come from the South East adding that the best candidate from that region, not minding the Senate rules on ranking, should be the next Senate President.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the Chairman and Secretary of the group, Hassan Galadima and Abraham Sule respectively, said the new Senate President should come from the South East.

“We are embarking and engaging our network with Arewa House, Northern Elders Forum and Northern Senators Forum to actualise our dreams and aspiration to install a great Nigerian from the South East as the Senate President of Nigeria,” the group said, referring to the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi.

“The events of a couple of days are quite clear to you. After the Presidential election attention has been shifted to the National Assembly our noble forum is not left out.

“In view of this, we have our illustrious son that deserves to be voted for the office of the Senate President.

“His excellency, Dave Ummahi is a nationalist, bridge builder across Nigeria, political tactician and leadership acumen brought to bear on the governance of Ebonyi State almost a decade now that he is the governor.

“We assure Nigerians that as a man of integrity, Umahi will bring his wealth of experience to bear on the national Assembly to be People’s driven, People’s Centered and People’s focus to redeem this Arms Government of its credibility posture.

 

“Reposition it to ensure that the bills and motions have direct impact on Nigerians that shall guarantee their wellbeing and Socio economic development across our great country by redefining democracy and good governance in Nigeria,” the group said adding that, “The Arewa journalists forum endorsed Senator-elect Dave Umahi for Senate President of Federal Republic of on the platform of 10th National Assembly.
