The Senate is set to confirm Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, Dr Jumoke Oduwole Idi Muktar Maiha, Rt Hon Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Ministers in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet.
Tinubu has requested the Senate to confirm seven ministerial nominees, a list previously announced in Abuja on Wednesday.
The request was detailed in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, read at the start of the Thursday plenary session.
The nominees include Dr Nentawe Yilwatda for the position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment; and Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, who is nominated as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Additionally, the list features Dr. Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade and Development; Idi Muktar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development; Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata as Minister of State for Housing, and Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
In his letter, President Tinubu urged the Senate to go ahead and consider his request.
Following this, Akpabio announced that the Senate would refer the request to the Committee of the Whole for prompt consideration.
“Distinguished colleagues, the presidential request has been referred to the Committee of the Whole for consideration very soon,” he stated.
Given that the request came on the Senate’s last sitting day of the week, the chamber is expected to begin the screening process for the nominees on Wednesday, pending receipt of the necessary documents.
