The senator representing Plateau North in the National Assembly, Pam Dachungyang, has empowered over 160 persons in his constituency with start-up packs in poultry farming and plantain chips processing to enable them to become self-reliant.
The beneficiaries of the empowerment programme were also taught the rudiments and best practices involved in poultry farming and plantain chip processing before they were handed over the start-up packs.
Senator Dachungyang, while speaking at the event at the Zang Commercial Secondary School, Bukuru in Jos, said the aim is to equip the people with knowledge, skills, and resources to achieve success in their endeavours.
According to him, the decision to focus on poultry farming and plantain chip processing stems from its potential to offer a viable source of income for people with relatively low start-up costs.
He explained, “I also want to use this opportunity to assure our people who did not benefit from the empowerment exercise that this programme is just one among many initiatives that I intend to execute for the economic emancipation of our people”.
Each beneficiary went home with N 50,000, 50 Noiler birds, poultry and plantain chips accessories to assist them in growing their business.
