Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke has joined the race for the coveted seat of the national chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Senator Danmarke, one of the founding members of the PDP, had served variously as councillor, local government chairman, House of Representatives member and senator on the platform of the opposition PDP.
He was the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Katsina state and has remained one of the party’s strongest backbone since the party lost power in 2015.
The senator told our correspondent that he joined the race for the PDP Chairmanship to reposition the party and make it strong enough to provide viable opposition ahead of 2027 polls.
“We are poised to revamp the PDP and restore its lost glory. Nigerians are looking up to the PDP and in sha Allah, we will not disappoint them” he said.
While urging the delegates to vote for him at the forth coming national convention of the PDP scheduled to hold at Ibadan the Oyo State capital, Senator Danmarke said the days of gloom in the party are over.
Senator Danmarke is not only a seasoned politician and ardent believer in the ideals of the PDP, he is also a philanthropist who is investing heavily in youth, education, health, and social development.
Some PDP members said his emergence will end the crisis rocking the biggest opposition party in Africa considering the fact that he has continued to maintain very cordial relationship with members and officials of the party irrespective of camps.
“This is one aspirant that does not belong to any of the feuding camps currently struggling for the soul of the party. He is neutral and will be received by all the camps. He is what Hausa will call ‘raba gardama'”, a PDP member, Yahaya Zaharadeen said.
