Senator representing Edo South District in the National Assembly, Neda Imasuen, has cautioned his constituents against resorting to self-medication.
He stressed the importance of seeking proper medical attention, a statement issued by his media aide, Moshood Karim on Tuesday said.
The lawmaker stated this against the backdrop of the unveiling of the 2026 edition of his annual Medical Outreach, a three-day programme to provide free, comprehensive medical services to residents across all seven local government areas.
Organised by the Office of the Senator, the outreach will offer a wide range of medical services, including breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, prostate cancer screening, blood pressure checks, malaria testing, eye examinations, and blood sugar level assessments.
The lawmaker, according to the statement, emphasised that health is a fundamental aspect of human wellbeing, referencing scriptures from the Bible which highlights the necessity of medical care and the role of physicians in society.
“Residents should not trivialise their health or resort to self-medication. It is important to seek proper diagnosis and treatment from qualified medical professionals,” he said.
The medical programme, which will run from Saturday, February 21 to Monday, February 23, 2026, underlines the lawmaker’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare, with a focus on early detection, prevention, and treatment of common and life-threatening conditions.
Medical personnel will be deployed across designated centres to ensure that residents receive professional diagnosis and treatment free of charge.
The programme will be held simultaneously in all seven local government areas within the district. Residents of Ovia South West are to converge at Iguobazuwa Health Centre, while those in Ovia North East will be attended to at Okada Health Centre.
In Egor Local Government, services will be available at Uselu Community Town Hall, while Ikpoba Okha residents are to visit Evbomodu Health Centre.
For Oredo Local Government, the venue is Urokpota Hall, while Eyaen Health Centre will cater to residents of Uhunmwonde. In Orhionmwon Local Government, the exercise will take place at Abudu Health Centre.
Encouraging widespread participation, Senator Imasuen urged constituents to take advantage of the free services.
The statement further said a resident of Ovia South West, Osamudiamen Osagie, recounted how she benefited from the 2025 outreach after suffering persistent eye irritation.
“When I saw the announcement last year, I decided to participate because I had constant itching in my eyes. I was diagnosed with conjunctivitis and treated. Today, I am free. I am grateful to Senator Imasuen,” she said.
Also, Pa David Amadasun from Oredo Local Government revealed that his participation in last year’s outreach led to the early detection and successful treatment of prostate cancer.
“When I attended the outreach, it was discovered that I had prostate cancer. I received treatment and today I am healthy. I thank Senator Imasuen for his kind-heartedness and urge other politicians to emulate his good works,” he stated.
End.
