Senator Inaugurates Erosion, Flood Control Project In Jigawa

Senator representing Jigawa Northwest, Babangida Hussaini has inaugurated the execution of over ₦1 billion project for the control of erosion and flood in Kore village of Taura local government area of Jigawa state.

At the inauguration ceremony for the project, Senator Hussaini said the project is part of the campaign promises made to the people.

He recalled that it was still fresh in their memories how over 100 people died and more than 200,000 displaced as a result of last year’s flooding. Hence, it became necessary to do everything possible to checkmate the disaster to prevent a recurrence.

The senator noted that the state government under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi has been taking all necessary measures through executing various multi-billion Naira projects to control the perennial flood in the state.

“As national lawmakers, it is incumbent on us to complement the effort of the state government, and I believe this project we are inaugurating under constituency project will help in addressing the challenges in this community of Kore and Taura local government at large,” he said.

There was a jubilation among the residents of Kore village over the inauguration of the project which they described as ‘a saviour.’

According to one of the victims of last year’s flooding, Sale Shafiu, over 50 houses, including his own, were destroyed during the flood.

“We are very happy with the project. We are optimistic that if this project is completed, it will bring to an end to this erosion which is causing flooding that has become a nightmare to the community,” he declared.
