Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial district at the National Assembly, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has declared the September 27, 2025, Cross River State PDP Congress legitimate, dismissing claims of illegitimacy.
Agom made the remarks while answering questions from journalists in Calabar at the weekend shortly after the Cross River State PDP concluded its 2025 state Congress, where Venatious Ikem was re-elected by delegates at the Congress.
Jarigbe asserted that the congress’s legitimacy stems from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) decision, making it binding and unchallengeable.
The senator expressed confidence in the newly elected leaders, stressing that they’ve chosen competent individuals to run the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Over 1,000 delegates from 18 local government areas participated in the congress, which was peaceful and well-organised, with security agencies and the Resident Electoral Commissioner in attendance.
Previously, Jarigbe’s election as Cross River North senator was affirmed by both the tribunal and the Appeal Court, despite challenges from former Governor Ben Ayade.
Re-elected as PDP’s Cross River State party Chairman, Barr Vena Ikem vowed to retrieve power from the APC in 2027.
He urged the party members to unite and work towards regaining power in the state.
