To enhance security in Idumuje-Ugboko and its surrounding areas, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing the Delta North senatorial district in the National Assembly, has rehabilitated a police station that had been abandoned since 2017.
The police station had been operational from 2009 until its abandonment in 2017.
Recognising the necessity of its revival, Senator Nwoko said he initiated the renovation to ensure the Sports University community and surrounding regions are adequately policed.
“Apart from being a critical area with a major road linking Edo State and proximity to a university, which made it particularly vulnerable to security threats, the renovation encompassed comprehensive furnishing and the refurbishment of toilet facilities.
“Beyond structural repairs, the project included the construction of a perimeter fence around the police station, these enhancements aim to make the police station fully operational,” he said.
During its inspection, Dr. Michael Nwoko, the Senator’s Chief of Staff, said the initiative was among several constituency projects recently inspected by him.
Nwoko highlighted his principal’s deep concern over the lack of a functional police station in Idumuje-Ugboko, disclosing that a team of police officers would soon be assigned to the area to ensure effective policing and bolster security.
“Plans are also underway for the construction of residential quarters behind the police station to accommodate assigned personnel, with provisions for an Anti-Cult Unit within the vicinity,” he said.
He underscored that these developments reflect Senator Nwoko’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for law enforcement agencies, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of policing in the area.
He reiterated that the facility has been officially designated as a Divisional Police Station, with its infrastructure tailored to support operations at that level.
Nwoko reaffirmed the senator’s dedication to improving the socio-economic well-being of Delta north residents, emphasizing that ensuring the security of lives and property is fundamental to achieving this goal.
