The senator representing Niger North senatorial district and immediate past governor of the state, Abubakar Sani Bello, has sponsored a medical outreach for eye services and other minor illnesses for 5000 people in his constituency.
The programme covered all the eight local government areas of Kontagora, Mariga, Mashegu, Magama, Wushishi, Rijau, Borgu and Agwara of the district.
The legislative aide to the senator, Mohammed Sani Yahaya during the outreach said the medical services were for both children and adults.
Yahaya said that the outreach started over two months ago and that the event last week spanned through five days that will culminate into various surgeries this week.
He said those whose cases could not be handled immediately were referred, those for surgery were slated for a later date, and those for immediate action were attended to.
The legislative aide said though most of the patients were for eye medical services , there were others with other ailments like fibroids and other ailments that needed further laboratory investigations.
He said the outreach was based on need assessment saying “ we did not just stay in the office and give them what we want to give them but we are giving to them what they wanted.”
Yahaya said close to 200 to 800 patients were attended to daily in the second phase, and the exercise will continue at Wushishi local government area.
