Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), National Lottery Regulatory Commission chapter has urged the inspector-general of police Alkali Baba Usman not to grant permission to the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to stage a protest at the headquarters of NLRC and the National Assembly as doing so will cause anarchy thereby setting a bad precedent in the polity.
NANS had written a notification letter to the Inspector-General of police Alkali Baba Usman to stage a peaceful protest in front of the headquarters of NLRC and the National Assembly.
The letter which was signed by Usman Umar Barambu was to draw the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the director-general of NLRC, Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila, over alleged corruption and flagrant abuse of office and embezzlement of public funds.
According to a press statement issued in Jos by Ferdinand Attah, interim secretary SSASCGOG NLRC branch, a copy made available to reporters said several attempts had been made in the past by enemies of the nation and the commission to rubbish the good works of Gbajabiamila by writing frivolous petitions and allegations of corruption against him.
“The recent move by NANS when they wrote to the Inspector-General of police requesting for permission to stage a protest at the NLRC over alleged corruption. One wonders why a student union body will delve into an organised workplace when the union, the EFCC and ICPC did not complain or receive any petition to that effect.”
