A Civil Society Organisation (CSO) based in the nation’s capital has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the swift appointment of service chiefs to head the various security formations in the country.

The group, Coalition for Equity and Good Governance, which made the commendation at a world press conference in Abuja, described the development as a clear departure from past administrations where sensitive positions are left vacant after the exit of their predecessors.

National coordinator of the group, Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim, maintained that the prompt appointment was a clear indication of President Tinubu’s commitment towards addressing the security challenges bedevilling the country.

The coordinator commended the president for ensuring that equity and competence was observed in the appointment of the new service chiefs, even as he urged the appointees to work together to rid Nigeria off the menace of banditry and insurgency.

“The President has hitherto made a commitment to Nigerians that religion and ethnicity will not find a place in his government, but competence and character will. And he has just demonstrated that in his recent appointments,” Abubakar stressed.

While congratulating the newly appointed Military Chiefs, he reminded them that the task ahead of them was enormous, as the safety and security of over 200 million Nigerians lies in their hands and would not hesitate to call them out if they fail to deliver.
