The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has dismissed media reports claiming that veteran journalist, Yomi Odunuga, has been appointed as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 11, 2025, the Director of Information and Public Relations in the OSGF, Segun Imohiosen, described the reports as false, misleading, and not backed by any official communication from the SGF office.
“The office wishes to set the record straight that the SGF has at no time made such an appointment, nor has any statement been issued from the Director, Information and Public Relations confirming the same,” the statement read.
Imohiosen further clarified that appointments of Special Advisers at the federal level remain the exclusive prerogative of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. As such, no individual can be validly appointed to that position without presidential approval and an official announcement.
The OSGF warned that the misinformation appears to be the handiwork of individuals seeking to mislead the public for selfish purposes.
It urged media organisations and members of the public to disregard the claim and refrain from further spreading unverified news.
“The public and media organisations are hereby advised to disregard the circulation of these unverified claims, which appears to be the work of some individuals with the intent of misleading the public for selfish gains, and to rely only on verified information officially released and duly signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, OSGF,” the statement added.
