Secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha has described minister of water resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, as an exemplary leader, who is patriotic in his service to Nigeria.
He spoke this at a farewell dinner organised by the ministry in honour of its outgoing minister whose tenure ends this month.
The SGF described Adamu as committed, intelligent and knowledgeable in many fields, not only in engineering but also in his passion towards change and sustainable development that made the Federal Executive Council (FEC), prioritise action on the water and sanitation sector.
Earlier in her remarks, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, said she had good working relationship with the minister alongside with other agencies and development partners in the ministry.
She said his service as a two- term minister under the Buhari administration has laid solid foundation in the water sector for the ministry to build on.
She also noted that although he had a private sector background, the minister has displayed a very understanding of the workings in the civil service, with a mindset of always ensuring due processes and procedures especially in actualising programmes and projects.
According to her, “A visionary leader who came to the ministry with a clear vision, focus and full of commitment and determination to succeed in the water sector.”
Reacting to the compliments, the outgoing minister, Engr Suleiman Adamu, expressed that it was a privilege for him to serve the country with no regrets whatsoever throughout his tenure, adding that he was fulfilled and happy with his performance of assigned responsibility.
He also mentioned that his administration has been able to record successes in the water sector in most of the 116 abandoned projects, which to him was a great achievement.
While appreciating the entire staff of the ministry, development partners and his family members for organising such event in his honour, he however enjoined the incoming administration to put in more efforts in order to achieve the action plans of the water sector because “Somebody is not successful until the success is sustained.”
Other line ministers, former head of services, serving and past permanent secretaries, serving and retired directors of the ministry, managing directors, executive directors and DGs, agencies and contractors of the ministry, and WASH ambassador amongst others were present to grace the event.
