Country music icon Shania Twain has opened up about the painful experiences that shaped her life and career, revealing that her new album, Little Miss Twain, is her most personal project yet.

Speaking with Billboard ahead of the album’s release on July 24, the five-time Grammy winner reflected on her childhood in Timmins, Ontario, where she began performing at just eight years old while dreaming of a better future.

Twain said the album revisits a period when success felt both possible and out of reach. She also reflects on the devastating loss of her parents, who died in a car accident when she was 22, forcing her to put her music career on hold to care for her younger siblings.

The singer admitted she had avoided writing about those experiences for years because they felt too personal. However, she eventually realised that while her story is unique, the emotions of love, grief and hope are universal.

Featuring influences from country, rock, bluegrass, R&B and big band music, Little Miss Twain also includes collaborations with several renowned musicians. Twain said the album celebrates the diverse sounds that shaped her growing up, making it one of the most honest and musically varied records of her career.
