Nigerian content creator and streamer Shank Comics has claimed that veteran comedians Bovi Ugboma and Bright Okpocha (Basketmouth) are wealthier than Afrobeats stars Asake and Wizkid.

Shank made the statement during a recent livestream, where he compared the financial habits of comedians and musicians in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

According to him, while music stars often display luxury through expensive cars and jewellery, comedians tend to focus on long-term investments and wealth preservation.

“I feel like comedy money is more. I can swear to God, Bovi and Basketmouth are richer than Asake,” he said.

He added that Bovi’s preference for modest cars reflects a different financial mindset rather than a lack of resources.

“Bovi doesn’t just like cars. If he sees a Lexus, he’s okay. All those Ferraris and high speed on the express, Bovi doesn’t care,” he said.

Shank also suggested that the visible display of wealth in the music industry may not accurately reflect actual financial standing.

His comments have sparked online conversations about the earning power of comedians compared to that of musicians.
Observers note that Nigeria’s comedy and skit-making industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, with increased brand endorsements, international shows, and digital monetisation.

Despite the claims, neither Bovi nor Basketmouth has publicly responded, while the music stars mentioned have remained silent on the comparison.
