Bauchi State Shariah Commission has invited popular Kano-based Islamic cleric Dr Abdallah Gadon-Ƙaya for allegedly commenting about a purported meeting by suspected members of a gay forum in Bauchi.

In an unverified video trending on social media, the cleric alleged that gays and lesbians from across the north assembled at the facility for a 10-day orientation. He alleged that they paid the facility about N100,000,000 for the 10-day event.

Without substantiating further the precise date and venue of the event, the cleric insisted that he was always ready to present evidence.

Reacting, Chairman Bauchi State Shariah Commission, Professor Hamisu Dass, said yesterday that an invitation letter had been sent to Dr Gadon-Ƙaya to come to Bauchi and divulge additional details about the suspected gay activity in Bauchi.

He said the Commission visited and queried managers of the alleged hotel where the event was said to have taken place.

Although the Shariah Commission did not reveal its findings after interrogating the hotel managers, Professor Dass warned that anyone found guilty would not be punished.

“The laws will take course against any person found to be involved in this infamous act. Already, this is a Shari’ah Commission tasked with administration and adjudication of Shariah Laws,” he said.

LEADERSHIP Friday recalls that the cleric, Gadon-Ƙaya, maintained a firmed criticism of LGBTQ in several public preachings held following the purported inclusion of same in the SAMOA Agreement, in which Nigeria is a signatory.
