The song ‘I Lied To You’ in Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ took home the Best Song Written and/or Recorded for a Film at the 16th annual Guild of Music Supervisors (GMS) Awards held February 28.
The GMS Awards honour outstanding achievements in the craft of music supervision in film, television, documentaries, advertising, trailers, and video games.
The Best Song Award went to the co-writers of ‘I Lied To You,’ Raphael Saadiq and Ludwig Goransson, the song’s performer, Miles Canton, and ‘Sinners’ music supervisor, Niki Sherrod.
Saadiq, a three-time Grammy winner and two-time Oscar nominee, also received an honorary award, the Icon Award, at the event, and performed the song alongside Goransson and Brittany Howard.
‘Sinners’ music supervisor Sherrod also won a second award at the GMS, the Best Music Supervision in Major Budget Films, for her work on the film.
Meantime, Gabe Hilfer won two awards at the GMS first, as the Best Music Supervision in Mid-Level Budget Films for ‘Marty Supreme’, and Best Music in a Television comedy for the season 1 of ‘The Studio’, while music producer, supervisor and former VP of GMS, Robin Kaye received a posthumous Legacy Award at the event.
GMS Awards was produced by the guild’s production committee comprising President Lindsay Wolfington, VP Heather Guibert, and Melissa Chapman, with show production handled by Angelia Shepperd of ABS Collective, Julie Donsky as talent producer, and Big Push Media Group’s Nick Urbom manning the technical production.
