Six supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State and former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, have reportedly lost their lives in an auto crash.

It was gathered that the victims died around the Lafia Flyover on Monday, September 14, while on their way to Awe Local Government Area of the state.

High Chief Otaru Douglas, Director of Media and Strategic Communications for the Ex-IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu Campaign Organization, confirmed the development, saying he was not authorized to issue an official position as the former police boss, the campaign organisation, and all supporters are in mourning.

He described the incident as a tragic accident that could happen to anyone, while offering prayers for the deceased and the injured.

“The best I can say is for God to repose the souls of those who died and grant quick recovery to those who sustained varying degrees of injuries,” he stated.

“The IGP and his wife are fully with the families of the deceased. We are praying that the passage of their children or their loved ones will mark the beginning of peace and progress in their lives.”

When pressed on the casualty figure, he said: “Reportedly, I was told six. Yes, reportedly, I was told six. But for now, there are those who sustained injuries.”

He also confirmed that the victims were on their way to Awe for a programme at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Government and the State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have mourned the victims of the accident.

Speaking with journalists in Lafia on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Nawani Aboki, described the incident as sad and unfortunate.
