Arne Slot has penned an emotional farewell to Liverpool supporters, insisting he departs with the club firmly entrenched among the continent’s best following his dismissal on Saturday.

The 47-year-old, who lifted the Premier League trophy in a stunning debut campaign, was relieved of his duties after a turbulent season that saw the Reds slump to fifth place, trailing champions Arsenal by a daunting 25 points.

Liverpool are expected to initiate formal discussions this week with Andoni Iraola, the former Bournemouth manager, about taking the Anfield reins.

In a heartfelt open letter published in the Liverpool Echo, Slot reflected on the bond he formed with the Kop faithful. “From the very first moment, you made me feel at home and walked with me every step of the way. That is something I will treasure forever,” he wrote.

“Even as this chapter closes, I look forward with absolute belief in what comes next for this club. The players have given everything, protected the club’s values, and created memories that will last a lifetime. Those foundations are unshakeable.”

Despite a bruising campaign that included 20 defeats across all competitions, Slot’s side did manage to clinch a Champions League berth for the forthcoming season an achievement the Dutchman was quick to highlight.

“Delivering Champions League football was a duty I took seriously, because it guarantees Liverpool remains at the top table of European football, both next year and in the future,” he explained.

“Football always involves change, but I leave certain that this club will continue to bring immense pride to its people. When I stood beneath the ‘This Is Anfield’ sign for the first time, I understood what was required. I walk away knowing we never stopped chasing that standard.”
