Sokoto State government has relieved nine district heads of Unguwar Lalle, Yabo, Wamakko, Tulluwa, Illela, Dogon-Daji, Kebbe, Alkammu and Giyawa of their appointments.
Similarly, six district heads namely, Marafan Tangaza, Sarkin Gabas Kalambaina, Bunun Gongoro, Sarkin Kudu Yar Tsakatawa, Sarkin Tambuwal and Sarkin Yamma Torankawa are dropped for the haphazard and unprocedural processes in their appointments by the immediate past administration, as well as their rejection by their subjects.
Their dethronement and subsequent reinstatement, according to a press release issued last night by the chief press secretary to governor Abubakar Bawa, is with immediate effect.
He said the district heads were relieved of their appointments for various offences bordering on insubordination, aiding insecurity, land racketeering, conversion of public properties for personal use and in the overriding public interest.
The decision was part of the recommendations by the committee set up by the state government to review the appointments of traditional rulers, renaming of tertiary institutions and the dissolution of governing boards of state parastatals other than the statutory bodies and subsequently, approved by Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
However, the district heads of Tsaki and Asara are to retain their positions; the cases involving the district heads of Isa, Kuchi, Kilgori and Gagi are recommended for further investigation; Alhaji Sama’ila Abdulkadir Mujeli is to return to his former post as Sarkin Rafin Gumbi while the district heads of Binji and Sabon Birnin were transferred to Gatawa and Bunkari districts respectively.
