Sokoto Gov’t Settles N500m Outstanding Fees For Foreign Students

The Sokoto State Government has spent about N500 million to pay outstanding fees of state indigenes sponsored by the immediate-past administration at Integral University in India.

Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir disclosed this while presenting certificates to two Master of Science (M.Sc) graduates of the University.

Alhaji Gobir said about eighteen graduates of the institution were presented with their certificates some months back.

According to him, the last batch of the certificates were handed over by the Vice Chancellor of the university last week.

The deputy governor stressed the need for all the graduates to impart the knowledge they acquired from the institution to justify the huge resources spent on them by the government.

In a related development, the Deputy Governor, in company of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Sifawa were at the residence of Alhaji Mustapha Lanas at Mabera area to present certificate of his child, Osama Mustapha Lanas, who died weeks after his graduation from the University.

Alhaji Sifawa, said the delegation was in the house at the instance of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who was also touched by the death.

Sifawa described the death as shocking and sad, considering that the deceased died in Madina while performing the Lesser Hajj, days after his graduation with first class honour.

In his comment, the deputy governor said late Osama Lanas, was a committed and dedicated student as he used his time to also enroll in the Islamic School of the University.

He said, the deceased has been a source of pride to his family and the state, praying Allah to grant him eternal rest and fortitude to the family the bear the irreparable loss.

Receiving the certificate on behalf of the family, the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Bello Aliyu Goronyo, thanked the state delegation for the visit and the presentation of the certificate.
