The Sokoto State governor Ahmad Aliyu has pledged to accord utmost attention to education in view of its importance to the development of any society.
He said in line with his administration’s declaration of education as one of its nine points agenda, the state government would sponsor 85 qualified indigenes to study various courses in the NorthWest University, Sokoto.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu made the pledge at the maiden Matriculation Ceremony for the 2022/2023 Academic Session of NorthWest University Sokoto, held in its premises along Kalambaina road, Sokoto.
Aliyu commended Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for establishing the pioneer private university in the state.
In his comment, Wamakko said the purpose of the university is to serve as a centre of innovation and research for sustainable development, health care, agriculture and technology in the state and the NorthWest region in general.
He expressed delight that the university came at a right time in the administration of a state government that values education much.
Also, the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Ahmad lbrahim Maigari, said the university is a full-fledged private university licenced by National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2022.
The university has three faculties of Computer Science, Education and Management and Social Science and 15 departments with a population of 200 students.
