The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State in the March 18 elections, Mallam Saidu Umar, has congratulated the outgoing the governor of the State. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, on his official declaration as the winner of the Sokoto South Senatorial election.

He described the hard-earned victory as a sign of positive perspective for the party, adding that history has been made.

A statement signed by Nafiu Muhammad Lema, the New Media aide to the governorship candidate, said he, however, chided the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state which he alleged were in cohort with other external actors that worked against the emergence of Governor Tambuwal in the election.

“The constituents of Sokoto South Senatorial District have opted for quality representation thereby shaming the forces who were bent on drawing the constituency to dishonour,” he said.

He further explained that what transpired in the Saturday’s supplementary election was the exact definition of what happened on March 18 during the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

He commended the PDP supporters for their resilience and for maintaining orderliness and resisting intimidation.

Umar also congratulated the other victorious PDP candidates in the House of Representatives elections –  Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, Bashir Gorau, and Umar Yusuf Yabo – who had just been returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying that its a clarion call for them to serve their people.

He also commended other candidates of the party who fought well during the concluded supplementary polls but were not announced as the winners. He implored them to study the process of the exercise thoroughly as that can help them in the next course of action.
